Summary:

The Energy Regatta has proven to be a very hotly contested event which has always run very smoothly. Little wonder, as the regatta is made up from teams from the oil industry. Thankfully that lubricant is not greatly in demand over this weekend of fun, as engines are cut in favour of billowing sails.

The Energy Regatta features a busy programme spread over a weekend of racing, but there is still ample time to chill out, network and bond with colleagues and rivals alike. The event begins in Port Solent on Friday and their promises to be a fiery start to proceedings that evening when a curry buffet is served. This may or may not have a profound effect on the outcome of racing, which kicks off the following day. Following registration, competitors head for Cowes on the Isle of Wight, enjoying a bit of race training from the skipper along the way. Slick teamwork is everything in this game. Once off Cowes and suitably refreshed with a racing lunch, the serious action commences, with the fleet engaging for good humoured battle on the racecourse before all competitors head in to Cowes Yacht Haven for the evening.

All this racing is just the prelude to the serious action, a barbecue which takes place in the evening and gives competitors a chance to kick back, relax, discuss oil related issues with peers and potentially get well oiled in the process.

The following day sore heads are forgotten as the yachts head back out on to the race course to conclude hostilities. Expect some close racing, as the fleet of 10 identical Beneteaus are easily handled and rewarding to race. By 4pm, it’s all over and all that is left is to await the prize giving ceremony, accompanied by tea and cakes. The question is, will your team be a well oiled machine or just an oily mess?
